    In-water reflectance spectra measured on-board a jet-ski across a complex nearshore zone of case-2 waters during the ECORS experiment

    International audienceIn situ reflectance spectra have been measured during the international field experiment ECORS-Truc Vert 2008 (SW France) in the nearshore zone over a complex bathymetry and in moderately turbid waters (SPM 7 m). The jet-ski provides a valuable mean to gather optical data in shallow waters and in environments hard to sample with traditional coastal ships. Main results show reflectance spectra are typical of the presence of mineral particles with light absorption at short wavelengths. The shape and magnitude of the spectra are also very representative of the type of waters and bottom depth : the maximum of reflectance is reached around 500 nm in low turbidity waters (SPM<1 mg/l) while moving to the yellow spectral band (570-580 nm) in moderately turbid shallow waters (SPM=4 mg/l) where rip currents drive sediments outside the surf zone. A very original dataset has been obtained considering the synchronization of optical data, bathymetric surveys and Formosat-2 high resolution satellite image all collected the same day (5 April 2008). In the present study, this dataset is tested to inverse optical models for bathymetry retrieval in order to compute diachronic bathymetric maps as the coastline is changing very fast and need frequent updates of the bathymetry

    Measures of Resting State EEG Rhythms for Clinical Trials in Alzheimer’s Disease:Recommendations of an Expert Panel

    The Electrophysiology Professional Interest Area (EPIA) and Global Brain Consortium endorsed recommendations on candidate electroencephalography (EEG) measures for Alzheimer's disease (AD) clinical trials. The Panel reviewed the field literature. As most consistent findings, AD patients with mild cognitive impairment and dementia showed abnormalities in peak frequency, power, and "interrelatedness" at posterior alpha (8-12Hz) and widespread delta (&lt;4Hz) and theta (4-8Hz) rhythms in relation to disease progression and interventions. The following consensus statements were subscribed: (1) Standardization of instructions to patients, resting state EEG (rsEEG) recording methods, and selection of artifact-free rsEEG periods are needed; (2) power density and "interrelatedness" rsEEG measures (e.g., directed transfer function, phase lag index, linear lagged connectivity, etc.) at delta, theta, and alpha frequency bands may be use for stratification of AD patients and monitoring of disease progression and intervention; and (3) international multisectoral initiatives are mandatory for regulatory purposes

    Predicting haplogroups using a versatile machine learning program (PredYMaLe) on a new mutationally balanced 32 Y-STR multiplex (CombYplex): Unlocking the full potential of the human STR mutation rate spectrum to estimate forensic parameters

    We developed a new mutationally well-balanced 32 Y-STR multiplex (CombYplex) together with a machine learning (ML) program PredYMaLe to assess the impact of STR mutability on haplogourp prediction, while respecting forensic community criteria (high DC/HD). We designed CombYplex around two sub-panels M1 and M2 characterized by average and high-mutation STR panels. Using these two sub-panels, we tested how our program PredYmale reacts to mutability when considering basal branches and, moving down, terminal branches. We tested first the discrimination capacity of CombYplex on 996 human samples using various forensic and statistical parameters and showed that its resolution is sufficient to separate haplogroup classes. In parallel, PredYMaLe was designed and used to test whether a ML approach can predict haplogroup classes from Y-STR profiles. Applied to our kit, SVM and Random Forest classifiers perform very well (average 97 %), better than Neural Network (average 91 %) and Bayesian methods (< 90 %)

    La ribavirine constitue en association avec l'interféron, le traitement actuel de l'infection par le virus de l'hépatite C. Chez l'homme, la conception d'un enfant pendant le traitement par ribavirine et sept mois après l'arrêt est contre indiquée. Cette recommandation repose principalement sur des données d'études animales. Afin d'améliorer le conseil et la prise en charge des patients, nous avons analysé les données fournies par la bibliographie et étudié chez un patient infecté par le virus de l'hépatite C traité par l'association ribavirine-interféron pégylé a2b, les caractéristiques spermatiques, la compaction de la chromatine et la fragmentation de l'ADN du spermatozoïde, avant, pendant et après ce traitement. Chez ce patient, nous avons observé une altération de la compaction chromatinienne du spermatozoïde persistant huit mois après l'arrêt. Notre observation souligne l'intérêt d'une étude prospective portant sur le génome du spermatozoïde lors d'une exposition à la ribavirine.TOULOUSE3-BU Santé-Centrale (315552105) / SudocSudocFranceF

    Alongshore-Variable Beach and Dune Changes on the Timescales from Days (Storms) to Decades Along the Rip-dominated Beaches of the Gironde Coast, SW France

    International audienceThe high-energy meso-macrotidal 110-km long Gironde coast, SW France, is primary composed of quasi-straight sandy beaches bordered by high and wide coastal dunes. Beaches are intermediate double-barred and are essentially morphologically variable alongshore with ubiquitous rip channels incising both bars. These rip channels enforce a strong alongshore variability in the morphology of the dry beach and/or of the dune, morphological patterns referred to as megacusp embayments. In this study, we use 70-year diachronic shoreline data, 3.5-year semi-annual in situ shoreline surveys since 2014, combined with 12.5-year monthly to semi-monthly topographic surveys collected since 2005 at Truc Vert beach. Results show that 2 types of megacusp can be identified: (1) accretive megacusps on the upper beach, forming through a sequence of accretionary beach states following a storm event, are enforced by inner-bar rip channels with a spacing of O(100 m) and a typical lifetime of a few months and (2) erosive megacusps cutting the dune, forming during severe-storm driven erosive events, which are primarily enforced by the outer-bar morphology with a spacing of O(1000 m). These erosive megacusps do not migrate alongshore and can persist for years to decades. The outstanding winter of 2013/2014 drove the formation of erosive megacusps all along the coast, dramatically altered the coastal landscape and also impacted the behaviour and mean spacing of the accretive megacusps during the subsequent years. Overall, the study demonstrates the complex interplay between the nearshore morphology and the alongshore-variable changes of the foreshore/backshore from the timescales of days to decades, with accessional outstanding winters having the potential to deeply affect beach morphology and rhythmicity on the time scale of a few years, at least

    Le présent rapport présente les résultats de la surveillance du paramètre « faune invertébrée benthique pour l’année 2016 sur les trois masses d’eau dont la surveillance a été confiée à l’UMR 5805 EPOC (Université de Bordeaux/CNRS) : « Gironde centrale » (FRFT 04) ; « Estuaire Adour aval » (FRFT 07) ; « Bidassoa » (FRFT 81). Les résultats concernant les autres masses d’eau du district hydrographique Adour-Garonne : « Estuaire de la Charente » (FRFT 01) et « Estuaire de la Seudre » (FRFT 02) sont présentées dans un autre rapport réalisé par l’UMR LIENSs. L’année 2016 se distingue par la mise en oeuvre du nouveau protocole AQUAREF (Garcia et al., 2014) à l’ensemble des stations du réseau de surveillance du district hydrographique Adour-Garonne.
